MILVA RECEIVES FRENCH MEDAL OF LEGION OF HONOUR

MILVA GETS ORDER OF MERIT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY
The coming of June 1st will be a memorable date in Milva’s career.
After her recital of Berthold Brecht’s songs at the Teatro Strehler in Milan, Milva will be presented with the prestigious Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the highest tribute that the Federal Republic awards for services to the nation.
It is given in recognition of her achievements in the music industry, including three decades’ worth of popular songs sung in the German tongue; for her contribution to German arts and culture; and for the scope and originality of her repertoire.
Brecht was universally recognised as one of the most original and outstanding poets of his day. Above all, Milva receives the Order because of her outstanding musical interpretations of his work, which have given people throughout the world a unique insight into his poetry and philosophy.
Milva was nominated for the award by Mr Horst Köhler, President of the German Republic, and it will be presented at a private function for dignitaries and the press after the concert. Previously, Milva was awarded the medal of the Officier de l`Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture in 1995.

BRECHT AL PICCOLO
 Cari amici,
è con grande gioia che ritorno a cantare Brecht in Italia, dopo lo spettacolo “Non sempre splende la luna” di alcuni anni fa. Come è noto, nel 2006 ricorre il cinquantenario della scomparsa del grande drammaturgo tedesco, e il “Piccolo” di Milano (che festeggia anche il cinquantenario dalla prima messinscena de “l’Opera da tre Soldi” nella città scaligera) mi ha chiesto di fare alcuni concerti nell’ambito di una serie di opere brechtiane che saranno presentate nella stagione teatrale 2005/2006 appena iniziata. In questi giorni sto finendo di mettere a fuoco alcuni dettagli dello spettacolo che presenterò per 6 sere consecutive sul palcoscenico del “Teatro Strehler” di Milano, dal 29 novembre prossimo al 4 dicembre incluso. Insieme ai miei collaboratori ho incontrato tante persone, ascoltato alcuni suggerimenti, e finalmente siamo entrati nella fase conclusiva dell’enorme lavoro di preparazione che precede sempre uno spettacolo. Per la rielaborazione della regia originale di Giorgio Strehler ho chiamato Cristina Pezzoli, mentre sul palco sarò accompagnata da quattro musicisti. Insieme presenteremo un florilegio dei brani più significativi di Brecht, ma non mancheranno alcune sorprese che spero faranno piacere a chi vorrà ascoltarmi in teatro.
Come dicevo prima, l’occasione per questo spettacolo è il cinquantenario della scomparsa dell’autore dell’Opera da Tre Soldi: sono però convinta che ascoltare Brecht oggi sia ancora più importante che in passato, perché i tempi che stiamo vivendo hanno bisogno più che mai del suo messaggio universale, fuori dal tempo e dalle mode. E allora eccomi nuovamente qui, su un palcoscenico, a prestare ancora una volta la mia voce a delle idee che ritengo fondamentali.  Dear
friends,
I'm starting my last big tour in Germany, in which I
will sing all the songs, the German audience loved mostly,
without forgetting to present also some songs of my new cd
"Milva canta Merini".
On the posters and in the newspapers, you can read, that it
will be my last tour.
After more than 40 years I spent on the stages of almost the
whole world, it's time for me to say good bye. But it
does not mean, that I will not do any more concerts, gala,
tv-shows and special projects. I feel the necessity to dedicate
more time to my private life, to my family, to find again
that part of myself, which I neglected for the frenetic rhythm
of my work. I will go on working, but in a much slower tempo.
"Last tour" means "good bye" to the tour-life.
